On May 15, 2024, the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) and the AEON Environmental Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance their cooperation on global sustainability initiatives. This agreement focuses on joint research, youth capacity development and environmental awareness, aligning with frameworks like the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The collaboration will promote the Satoyama Initiative, aiming to foster societies in harmony with nature through activities such as tree planting and conservation efforts. Both organizations will leverage their networks and expertise to address global environmental challenges and empower the next generation of environmental leaders.
