GIAHS 10th Anniversary Forum in Sado
2021.10.01
IPSI member Sado City will organise an event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the World Agricultural Heritage (GIAHS) accreditation of the Sado Island on 29-31 October 2021.
GIAHS is a system established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to pass on to future generations globally significant areas rich in traditional agricultural practices, associated cultures, customs, landscapes and biodiversity. In Sado, “Satoyama of Sado Island Coexisting with Crested Ibis” was certified by the GIAHS in June 2011. This forum aims to discuss the process that Japanese agriculture has gone through in the past 10 years and what kind of sustainable Japanese agricultural heritage system should be handed down to the next generation, based on the achievements and challenges of biodiversity and recycling-based agriculture that have been developed in Sado Island. The results of the conference will be disseminated both domestically and internationally as a meaningful guidepost for Japanese agriculture in the future.
