IPSI at the UN Biodiversity Conference: CBD COP16

2024.09.24

The 2024 UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD COP 16) will be held in Cali, Colombia on 21 October – 1 November 2024. It will be the first Biodiversity COP since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) in December 2022 — a historic agreement aiming to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2050.

At the conference, governments will evaluate the progress of implementation of the GBF, and further develop the monitoring framework and resource mobilization. Countries are also expected to demonstrate the alignment of their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with the Framework.

IPSI will contribute through the following side events and research outputs.

Side Events at the Blue Zone

The Blue Zone will take place in the Centro de Eventos del Pacifico. It is the formal space for conferences and negotiations managed by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). All official sessions, meetings, side events, and press conferences held during COP16 take place in this area.

Only participants accredited by the CBD, including Party delegations, Heads of State, admitted observers, and accredited media, are allowed to enter the Blue Zone.
