The IPSI Secretariat at UNU-IAS, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, held a side event at the Thirteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 13) in Cancun, Mexico on 6 December 2016, titled “Strategic Action for Mainstreaming Biodiversity: Contributions of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) to Biodiversity and Human Well-Being”.
Since COP 13 marked six years since the launching of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) during CBD COP 10, and the partnership had grown from 51 founding members to 202 diverse organizations working for “socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes” around the world, the side event aimed to highlight how IPSI provides an effective platform for engagement of various stakeholders, improving the knowledge base and influencing policy processes for mainstreaming biodiversity into culturally and socio-ecologically important landscapes and seascapes.
