On July 16, 2020, a side event of the 2020 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development was held, titled “Satoyama Initiative: Societies in Harmony with Nature – An inclusive approach for communities, landscapes and seascapes“. The event was held as an online event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was open for viewing to anyone.
This event was organized by IPSI members and friends the Ministry of the Environment of Japan; Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica; United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP); Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES); Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity; and the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). High-level experts from the organizers gave presentations about the Satoyama Initiative and related issues, and engaged in conversation with each other and with participants. This was a great opportunity for the world to learn more about IPSI’s important work in landscape approaches.
A detailed write-up of the event is available on the UNU-IAS website here. The event can be viewed on video by clicking here.
