Natural Resources Office (NRO), Sabah


NRO was established in 1964 as a Ministry and was integrated into the Chief Minister’s Department in 1967. Secretary of NRO is directly under the Chief Minister. With the total of 34 officer/staff, NRO is responsible for coordinating state agencies (ministries) on all matters related to natural resources, especially lands, forestry, minerals/mining, water resources and biodiversity in Sabah. NRO also coordinates state natural resources policy with the Malaysia Federal Government. Roles include, (1) formulate and implement policies, (2) advise the Chief Minister, (3) supervise state agencies, and (4) evaluate technical recommendations on natural resources for Minister/Cabinet for state decisions.
