The Eighth Global Conference of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI-8) will be held 2-6 September 2019 in Kumamoto, Japan, organized by the IPSI Secretariat in cooperation with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, and the Kumamoto Prefectural Government. An Expert Thematic Workshop on Landscape Approaches for the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework is also being planned back-to-back with IPSI-8.
The IPSI Global Conference consists of a closed meeting of the IPSI Steering Committee, a meeting of the General Assembly that is open to all IPSI members, and a Public Forum, open to the general public. The Steering Committee and General Assembly meetings deal mostly with administrative matters for the partnership, while the Public Forum is intended to further the discussion of issues related to landscape and seascapes, and to inform a broader audience about IPSI and its activities.
Expert Thematic Workshop on Landscape Approaches for the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework
The expert thematic workshop will focus on discussion of the effectiveness of landscape approaches in terrestrial and coastal landscapes for biodiversity conservation, and how to maximize this effectiveness in the upcoming Global Biodiversity Framework. The Framework is expected to be adopted at CBD COP 15 in Kunming, China in late 2020, and a process is ongoing to prepare and develop its major elements. This workshop is intended to contribute to this process, and the workshop report will be presented to the co-chairs of the process with recommendations for incorporating landscape approaches.
As mentioned above, the Public Forum will be a joint event between this Expert Thematic Workshop and IPSI-8, and registration is possible through the link above. A draft workshop programme is available for download here.
Registration for the Expert Thematic Workshop is on an invitation basis. Experts wishing to take part should contact the IPSI Secretariat.
