2-6 September 2019: The Eighth IPSI Global Conference (IPSI-8)

2019.09.06

The Eighth Global Conference of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI-8) was held 2-6 September 2019 in Kumamoto, Japan, organized by the IPSI Secretariat in cooperation with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, and the Kumamoto Prefectural Government. An Expert Thematic Workshop on Landscape Approaches for the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework was also held back-to-back with IPSI-8.

IPSI-8

The IPSI Global Conference consists of a closed meeting of the IPSI Steering Committee, a meeting of the General Assembly that is open to all IPSI members, and a Public Forum, open to the general public. The Steering Committee and General Assembly meetings deal mostly with administrative matters for the partnership, while the Public Forum is intended to further the discussion of issues related to landscape and seascapes, and to inform a broader audience about IPSI and its activities.

Public Forum

A Public Forum on "Socio-ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes for Biodiversity Conservation" was held 14:00-18:00 on Wednesday, 4 September 2019. This was a joint event between IPSI-8 and the Expert Thematic Workshop. The IPSI Public Forum aims to inform the general public about  relevant issues and encourage discussion of landscape approaches, production landscapes and seascapes, and biodiversity conservation. This year's event also showcased international and local experiences of SEPLS, and Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) conservation in Kumamoto.
