š£SDM 2024 Open Call for Project Proposals!
|
|
Reminder! The open call for the 2024 Satoyama Development Mechanism (SDM) is still open. SDM is a collaborative activity operated by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), UNU-IAS (host of the IPSI Secretariat), and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ). Its purpose is to provide financial support for the implementation of activities under IPSI.

We invite you to submit project proposals for SDM 2024. This year, we will award grants of up to USD 20,000 to five selected projects, with a project period of no more than two years.
|
- Application Deadline: 15 August 2024.
- Eligibility: Open exclusively to IPSI member organizations.

š«14th African RCE Regional Meeting
|
|
On 28ā30 August 2024, UNU-IAS will co-organize the Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE) on Education for Sustainable Development 14th African RCE Regional Meeting. It will be hosted by RCE North Rift and the University of Eldoret in collaboration with the National Environment Management Authority of Kenya (NEMA) and the Eldoret National Polytechnic. The event will be held in a hybrid format under the theme Role of RCE in Climate Action, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The meeting aims to mobilize various stakeholders, including local communities, academic institutions and governments, to engage actively in ecosystem restoration, waste management, sustainable livelihoods and the adoption of renewable energy and green financing to address climate change. It will also empower youth and women in mainstreaming ESD and SDGs in the African region, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts of all African RCEs.

The meeting will be held on the main campus of the University of Eldoret and online. To participate, please register by 20 August 2024 (23:59 Eastern Africa Time).

š©Side Event Spotlights COMDEKS to Achieve SDGs and Biodiversity Goals

The IPSI Secretariat co-organized a side event at the 2024 UN High-Level Political Forum to spotlight the Community Development and Knowledge Management for the Satoyama Initiative (COMDEKS), a flagship programme supporting community-led biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource use. Key speakers highlighted COMDEKS' role in achieving the SDGs and the Global Biodiversity Framework.
|
Speakers also highlighted the urgent need to address environmental challenges and shared COMDEKS' successes in fostering resilient SEPLS. Local practitioners emphasized the impact of their local projects and women's empowerment in achieving sustainable development.

šResilience Indicators Workshop on Sustainable Landscape Management

A training session by the IPSI Secretariat, UNU-IAS and UNDP provided practical guidance on planning and implementing strategies for sustainable landscape management.

The workshop provided national country teams responsible for managing the implementation of GEF-SGP in participating countries with practical guidance on planning baseline assessments and developing landscape and seascape strategies for the fourth phase of COMDEKS.
