We are delighted to announce that the IPSI Secretariat will organize the Ninth Global Conference of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI-9) to be held in Akita, Akita Prefecture, Japan from 8 July – 11 July.

During IPSI-9, we expect to share and exchange ideas on IPSI’s roadmap toward achieving the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. We hope to examine how IPSI can work towards our objectives as well as contribute to the new global biodiversity framework. During IPSI-9 we will also hold discussions on the new IPSI Strategy and Plan of Action and hold a Public Forum on youth innovation and its contributions to SEPLS.

More details on the programme will follow as we approach the conference, but for now, it is most important that you register by the deadline.

IPSI members interested in participating, please register by16 April 2023, Japan Time. The IPSI Secretariat sent a registration form to every IPSI member organisation. If your organisation's focal point did not receive one, please get in touch with the IPSI Secretariat.
PUBLICATION

Disentangling the practice of landscape approaches

This article was published in the Sustainability Science journal and co-written by Maiko Nishi (Research Fellow, IPSI Secretariat). Researchers used a Q-method questionnaire to investigate how landscape approaches are understood and employed in 45 socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes case studies. The findings revealed that landscape approaches share common goals of empowering local communities and preserving context-specific values, but their implementation varies depending on contextual factors.
