The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)

The mission of the organisation is ‘Creating Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Future’. TERI has been instrumental in trying to achieve these goals of ensuring sustainable development for all through its focus on research, technology development, policy and governance and field-level implementation. TERI is now a leading developing country institution that has a reach and presence in India as well as globally. The organisation has made substantial gains in the field of renewable energy, climate change mitigation and research, biodiversity management, community forest conservation and REDD plus activities. TERI is one of the institutions to bring the issue of global warming and climate change to the world’s attention and highlighted the urgency of the challenges facing the world. In India, it has emerged as a leading institution for sustainable development that bridges the gap between policy and governance and innovation at the grassroot level. TERI does this by focusing on diverse issues of relevance to the environment, be it on renewable energy, on ensuring green habitats and sustainable building or through its work on forestry and biodiversity issues including community management of forests and increasingly REDD PLUS (Reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation).
