Tropical Science Center

Costa Rica

The Tropical Science Center is a non-governmental and not-for-profit private organization without political or religious affiliation; it has been declared a public interest organization by the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica.

The mission of the Tropical Science Center is to generate, apply and disseminate knowledge in order to promote policy and social and environmentally responsible best practices with an emphasis in the tropics.

The vast majority of TSC’s conservation actions and research are interdisciplinary and the conclusions and recommendations are holistic in nature. This holistic approach is achieved by working from baseline ecological determinants, and the dynamic environmental, physical, and biological systems; by then analyzing the anthropologic elements of the problem; and concluding with the sociological and cultural implications. The process maintains a conservationist orientation, searching for solutions that bring about human sustainable development.
