Much of Ishikawa Prefecture’s land consists of satoyama regions and many satoumi landscapes exist along the prefecture’s 582 kilometers of coastline. A diverse range of living organisms inhabit these regions.

In order to pass along these precious satoyama and satoumi regions to future generations, Ishikawa Prefecture will settle on a “biodiversity vision” in 2011 as a strategy to develop satoyama and satoumi through a “variety of participants” and “creation of new value.” The prefecture is also working with local areas on the sustainable use and conservation of satoyama and satoumi areas.
