SBSTTA15 side event “Challenges and Hopes in Ecosystem Restoration” took place

The fifteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) took place in Montreal, Canada (7 – 11 November 2011).
During this meeting, the IPSI Secretariat co-organised a side event called “Restoring Life – Challenges and Hopes in Ecosystem Restoration and Potential Role of the CBD” together with the CBD Secretariat, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) International on 8 November, consisting of a series of presentations on the restoration of rice paddies and biodiversity after the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, as well as various unique ecosystem restoration activities in Canada, followed by a remark on the role for the CBD in addressing challenges in ecosystem restoration.
There were about 60 people in attendance at the side event. The programme and the presentations of the side event and the summary poster of the “Great East Japan Earthquake Rebuilding Symposium” which was prepared for the SBSTTA-15 poster session under the theme “Contribution of ecosystem restoration to the objectives of the CBD and a healthy planet for all people” are now available for download.
